5 years ago, I have donated bone marrow for a guy I never knew who suffered of leukaemia. While it was a slightly painful process for me, I felt great about it. I was very downcast when I heard some months later that the recipient had died. But I'd do it again any time, and I can only encourage everyone to register as a potential donor.

I won't say what I've done but the kindest thing that a stranger has done for me is when I was rushing through an airport my long shoestrings came untied and a lady came and kneeled in front of me to tie my shoes so I wouldn't have to put down my luggage...I thought that was so kind.

A tip larger than the bill, gifts for families but from my own personal experience the littlest thing could be the greatest thing in the world ... just a smile from a stranger could change a whole day and its outcome ... so we never know (that was one of the greatest things for me ... during a really bad time)

Being Happy that my name isn't my real name and remains unknown to people in this site....my answers would be many. So to better answer this would be from the perspective of the one helped. Several come to mind, like a young man who was taken into our home for a chance to get back on his feet and able to make better choices. Or the mother of the fostered new born that we took into our home as she was learning disabled and unable to properly care for her premie baby that resulted in severe injury to the infant. We had the infant for several weeks at first, as she also caused damage to herself and was in the hospital for treatment....but even thought she was impared in thinking skills (retarded) she cried and every day many times cried saying thank you for helping me and letting me live with your family. Or the single mother who didn't have a car so we gave her ours, with transfere of title instead of the money we could have sold it for. She needed it to get off welfare and provide for her children so we gifted the car through the State for her to receive the gift without cost or taxes. Monies we have sent to people we don't even know but heard about, which is best that they don't know who we are, as most thankfull people feel real quilty to accept a helping hand or gift when needed. The teen group that we formed by accident for teens in trouble, but just the same gave help to for rehab, court dates and speaking to the Judge, or just giving of our time to talk.....most people have a few minutes to waste, so it is better when used to help another. Or the faces of the many children and families that we find to sponsor during the Holiday time of year for christmas food, presents, firewood, and monies for any bills.

Giving of one self is the best gift to ever give, and the kindest thing is to never expect something back or let them know who you are when it can be avoided. If you get more than a thank you in return from those who know who the gifter was, then you did it for the wrong reasons! The worst thing to do is to stop to pat yourself on the back or toot your own horn.....this is why I'm so glad that I'm not known here. HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!

...and if you really want a Happy Holiday Season......bye some of the needs like, tooth brushes, blankets, decent clothes, soap, and other like items and on Christmas Eve, go out into your inner city's and find your homeless.......and without questions, just pass out the gift bags! Don't wonder or ask how they got there....just give it with the right intent. What our children saw and learned from years of doing this together as a family gave us in return more then we ever gave them......everyday our children remain out of trouble and without the problems of those we tried to help. We didn't give anything in the end......we received!
