I'm about a 50% yes to that.
Bought my M-I-L a really nice robe and matching slippers.. high quality with a price to match.
She told me it was ugly (right... thanks.. she wouldnt know nice/class if it bit her in the @ss)
I told her I sent the receipt so she could return it if she didnt care for it.
She told me to return it for her (we are hours away by car) and get her something else.
I told her it was up to her, as I enclosed the receipt.
She got mad. I think I passed the phone over to the hubby.
Who knows. She didnt complain about it again. I hope it goes moldy in her closet.

Anybody that is that rude doesn't need to be acknowledged.....try to ignore it, and then do not be so generous to them in the future.....
My story:
My mother in law is so rude, and for some reason, I always try to get her little gifts just to show her we are thinking of her. She really loves dark chocolate, and I bought her a variety of different chocolates...mostly 60-80% cocoa and put it in a little bag and gave it to her. First she said "What is this for???!??!!" I said, "Oh, it is just because I thought you would like it." She looked in the bag and said "hmmmpf....I like 100% chocolate...." Well, I ignored it...but you better believe I haven't gotten her any little surprise gifts since.

I have seen someone be that rude and I was thinking HAD IT BEEN ME, I would have cursed them out!
I think it is very rude and uncalled for to hinge your Christmas gift hopw on others in regard to particular items you want. I figure if you want it that bad, dont depend on someone else to get it, get it yourself! Some people just have no class; and its sad to say that most of these persons who would react like this are FAMILY & FRIENDS! LOL

i did a couple of times.
one time was when the clothes were too big. Other family members jumped in and corrected me saying they were fine, now if i did not like them that was different but they fit fine
got home and my mother said they looked ridicoulous and were to big.
I did one time tell aunt that i would like to exchange purse. she said she could not return it. i got five purses one year for christmas. do not get anything you can not return.
I dont know, honestly you can be nice about it and you can be rude in anything. If you feel they were rude, I would simply say ok well i will give it to someone else. do not let it ruin your day.

Wow, some people can just be downright rude!
I've always thanked everyone who has gotten me a gift, and I have always appreciated it, even if it wasn't something I could use, or even liked.
I believe if someone had done that to me I would take them off my gift giving list for the next year.

I have never had anyone tell me they did not like the gift given to them but I could tell by the look on his/her face.
It was disappointing for me because I had worked very hard to make it.
Thanks

I was very appriciative of their honesty and it permitted me to get my money back. It also helped me to get to know the person better by knowing what they dont like.

Hell no. If someone was rude like that to me, I would know to never buy anything for them again.
