When your a kid having a christmas tree in your living room just makes sense cause thats where the presents go, but when your older and you analyze it..doesn't it seem weird to chop down a tree, decorate it and leave it to rot in your house for 2-3 weeks?

Yes. It could be deemed as being wierd when you do not understand the purpose and the origin behind the use of a tree. Its just as silly (or scary) as the concept of some fat man in a red suit who ties up deer to his sleigh because he is too lazy to walk. Then he sneaks in your house in the middle of the night by sliding down the chimney.

No one seems to be answering your question, so I will make a start but I do warn that I always look at things from both sides.

Yes I have had that thought at times that you have. More so with a real tree but just the same....

But I always end up back where I started for several reasons. First, if i didn't continue or rather stoped doing a tree, then my head would still know that it was Christmas time and my livingroom was bare, devoid. No magic looking at the tree lights
lit in a dark livingroom after the kids have gone to bed. No tree for my husband and I to sleep under, for a night ot two, after Christmas before it comes down for the Season. A tradition that was started after the birth of our fist child because we fell asleep after putting the presents under the tree.

Why.....?......Every time I were to look out the windows, I wouldn't be able to look in any direction to not see all the Holiday decorations of many faiths and traditions shared by families. This being the case, I then need to really think that if this was removed from my practice, what would be the message I then send to my children? That we aren't important enough to have and share traditions dispite what "items" are used? Would my kids wonder if mom and dad's belief in things would change to the point that they would no longer know what is in, or out with us. And then I think how grounded our children have been and have never given us any trouble over the many years. With having six children, and our marriage also having been set on our beliefs in things and tradition, it seems a small thing to continue to do, with such great rewards we see and have as a result of this tradition and others we keep.

If I didn't need to shop for food or leave the house for any reasons for the whole month of December, then I wouldn't have to hear all those cherished Christmas songs that bring a picture from my memory back from my years as a child....but how sad to let go of them too.....Nat King Cole, Dean Martin and so many others.

Not being able to remain in the house for a Month, then I would see, smell, and hear things that would scream of the Holiday Season and how pretty all the lights and decorations of all peoples religions are, only to know that when I return home, something, or all things about Christmas and that dang tree isn't there when I open the door.

I am a Grandmother with many more expected from the rest of the six children over the many years to come. I also for this reason would never want my Grandchild to ask, "Mommy why do we have to go to Grams when she doesn't have pretty decorations there?" Or "Can't we just stay home mom and not go see Grams and Gramps".

Because it shows our children that all the fuss, time and bother means more then what that tree means....we have solid roots, a solid family, and solid traditions!

May you all have a HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON!

Yes, it kinda look cosy when you are a kid coz' kids value the beauty of the tree in the room but adults value the beauty of bringing up the kids in a fresh environment. Kids grow older and interests and responsibilities as they mature.

I think the tree is great when the kids are little and are waiting for Santa to come but when your children are all grown up and are not with you any more then its just not the same. For it is the kids that make Christmas
may God bless you and Merry Christmas

You could try putting the present outside under a tree, but they may get damaged due to weather or taken by the neighbors.

These are trees that wouldn't have been grown ata ll, if it weren't for Christmas trees.

So no. And it's better than plastic ones, that will never rot at all.

I understand what you are saying. The guy next door to me has covered his house front, back and the roof with flashing lights. How strange is that? There are lots of strange traditions, like yule logs (what's that all about) but they all have an origin somewhere. Don't know where myself.
