If you use Cable high speed, you might have to reset the modem, so it recognizes that you plugged in a different computer.
If you are using a router, you plug it in, and it works.
If you are using DSL, without a router, you might have to reset the modem, or ADD the DSL account to your notebook.
If you are using Dial-up, yes, you would need to add the dial-up information.
Good luck and Happy Computing!

You have installed the ethernet card to ur notebook . Check that it is installed properly or not. If there is no problem check that if there is a problem in your modem or in the cable u have connected. Is the notebook show the message that the network cable unpluge or any other message.
One more possibility is of Ip problem so renew the ip. For this Do as follows.
Plug the cable in the ethernate card and goto the local area connection , double click on it, now click on properties, then on tcp/Ip and click on Ip, here select obtain Ip automatically in both place and click ok.
Now go to run write cmd , in that write ipconfig /renew .

First you would want to make sure your NIC card is activated. Sometimes companies make the internal network card inactive when it is on battery power to conserve power. You may need to activate it: control panel; network and internet connections; Internal NIC Configuration. This will tell you if it is on, and if it is off due to you only being on a battery. Here you can change it to be set for either way. If this does not help, email me, i will guide you through on how to do any type of internet problems for the most part; especially wireless.

If you have the original "disk" that you used to install the internet service on your desktop, insert it into your lap top drive. When it asks if you are a new or existing customer, click on existing. Then set it up according to the instructions, or internet wizard setup if you have that on your computer. I have two desktops. I have my internet service installed on both, but I only have one account, so I can only be online on one computer at one time. I am on dialup, so I only have one phone line to use internet with. You have to have some way to "install" the service on your laptop. Just use the same info you used to set it up on your desktop.

Nope, you must have the CD to set it up. But you can still set up the network on another computer, once it's set up in your home area, any computer can use it. So why can't you set up the network on your Laptop?
