Human perception is that "things" on the horizon and near other earth objects (trees?) appear bigger. While overhead, with no earth-bound comparisons, -it looks smaller.

A study was done, and the ratio may be 5-to-1 on the comparitive difference between the horizon and up-above.

But while the moon orbit is not perfectly round, -that by no means is the bulk of the 'perceptial' difference in the moon.

The Moon has an eliptical orbit around the Earth so sometimes it is actually slightly closer. However, what you are mostly seeing is an optical distortion when the Moon is low on the horizon and its light has to go through more atmosphere to get to you. The extra air magnifies the image.

Its just simple..........
moon's orbit around the earth is not circular so sometime it moves away from the earth and sometime comes closer to earth so as you know far objects seem small to us and near objects look larger therefore the moon is sometimes larger and sometimes small...............
