Congrats on beating the nail biting habit!
I also was a serial nail biter who's overcome the habit, at least most of the time.
My nails have become stronger since those days in part because I've started eating healthier (fruits/vegs/dairy/meat), use Sally Hansen Teflon Tough (nail polish that strengthens - comes in a variety of colors)), and use Sally Hansen Radiant Hand, Nails, and Cuticles Creme. It says that it softens hands, smoothes cuticles, and strengthens nails (and I would have to agree)

Try the Sally Hansen products. I have always been a nail biter but my nails are really long now!
I had acrylic nails done for a night out. When I had them removed my nails had grown a little, so I used this as a start off.
I used a Sally Hansen product; you can get in Superdrug, Boots, etc... It is a nail hardener basically. Use it as directed but don't use it for more than two week at a time.
Nail hardeners will strengthen the nails but prolong use will make them brittle and they will break more easily.
I also keep them polished all the time. The polish will come off, only the more expensive ones will last that bit longer. You just have to reapply when it becomes chipped or when your nails grow.
Also make sure you file them regularly and trim them. Don't just leave them to grow really long straight away, you need to strengthen them first!
I always square mine off but the shape of the nail is up to you.. Just make sure you file them properly. Don't file back and forward. File one side, then the other.
Give it a few weeks and you will have the fairest nails of them all.... Trust me, I'm a nail technician!!!

What is your diet like? If you skip on the fruit and veg you may be low in some minerals that your body needs, as, biologically, nails aren't too important they may be near the end of the queue for nutrients. Your toe nails don't grow so fast, nor do you open things with them (I'm guessing!) so they don't show the stress in the same way.
So good diet is a place to start and you could try (pricey) pro nail hand cream from qvc. Good for you for quitting!

Max Factor Clear Top Coat. It lasts a long time... For strength and length, there is Sally Hansen 5 to 7 day nail growth. Those two are my favorites.

a million) Get pretend nails, placed them on, then you actually is only no longer waiting to chew by using those at the same time as your genuine nails strengthen back. 2) Get that nail polish stuff that tastes undesirable so whenever you chew your nails, you'll hate the style. 3) swap to chewing gum.] reliable success!

Hey!
The best way to strengthen your nails is to buy a satin buffer & some "Solar Oil" it is made by creativ... put some of the solar oil on your nail and buff them EVERYDAY! This is like food for your nails & helps to keep them strong & shiny!
You can buy solar oil from a nail salon... it is the best thing ever!
Good luck & happy manicuring! :O)

You may have a condition called egg shell nails. There are products on the market from Nailtiques and Nail Tek that will help.
