I don't understand your question. Do you mean get involved? If it is, there is no reason for it to be unsafe, unless you worried about pesticides. That's where a respirator comes into the picture. And most bugs wont hurt you.So I say, dig in!

As with the other respondents I'll assume you want treat your property with over the counter chemicals.
Safe is a slippery word, because people hear it and think they can be used like water. Many other these OTC products will interrupt the chemical processes in our body. Just that in small amounts it will not cause lasting harm. When I sprayed Sevin commecially, my then employer did regular blood tests to see that we were not over exposed.
Resperators help, but studies have shown that significant intake is from getting products on the soft skin of the face and arms. Dermal esposure.
If one is careful in application, stores the products where they will not infiltrate living spaces, and most of all - follow the label!
Follow the lable, for it is the law. I know it sounds pedantic, but just because a little is good, does not mean more is better.

for the most part ( and if i can get my head round your question ) as i understand you would like to know if it is safe to use types of insecticides / and or pesticides .
most of the stuff you get from the hardware or garden centres in supermarkets are non - carcinogenic and so are deemed fairly safe to use , but like anything you need to follow the instructions on the bottle .
pyre thrum and cabaryll are two popular insecticide/pesticides that you can purchase ( some are already diluted and ready to go ) which i would suggest you buy --- because if you don't know what your doing --- it's not so much you'll " poison " yourself --- you are a chance of poisoning your plants . good luck
