Does anyone know why the Singaporeans are so proud compared to other more successful races like Japanese, Koreans and Germans?

All the Singaporeans achieved in this 30 years is just creating a low cost platform for the Western country factories to operate from. Thats what the so called vibrant Singapore economy is all about as compared to non-stop innovators like Germany, Japan and South Korea.

Maybe their good ranks in the worldwide economic statistics made them to feel that they are superior to other neighbouring countries, however this is like comparing a city against a country. How fair this can be?

After all in some point in time in the future Singapore has to certainly reunite with Malaysia so that it has a place for its fast growing population to atleast sleep well. This reunion is inevitable because land reclamation will not work for as long as 100 years to come :-)

Yet i dont understand why these people are so proud without even realising the above facts??

Hello hula twist,

Have you been to the back yard of Serangoon road where people sleep on the roads and plenty of rubbish everywhere? Or the Yishun MRT station underground link to the adjacent Shopping complex where beggars beg?

Or the rochor canal which stinks like hell (Have u seen the London thames river?).

Clean them first before talking abt cleanliness!

Frankly I have no idea too. But I do agree with you, Singaporeans are too cocky and complacent about their own achievements. I'm Singaporean and I think there's lots of room for improvement for Singaporeans.

OK, granted, they're proud but I think cocky is a bit too strong a word...

If you think about it, they've managed to create one of the world's most developed countries in the space of three or four decades, and as for the MRT I think it's pretty amazing!

And let's face it, Singapore is so clean because people are so proud of it. Despite all the fines, you don't get policement lurking around every corner - the main motivation is civic pride.

If Londonders and NYers had that those would be amongst the cleanest cities in the world.

But they're not...

Have you ever been to Singapore? It is sooooo clean. Better than scuzzy London with pigeon poo and chewing gum all over the place. You mention the Japanese, Germans etc - all these people have major stains on their history. Why does it bother you anyway - it is a lovely place - people are healthy looking, clean, the buildings are beautiful and there is little violence, minimal obesity and unemployment - what's not to be proud of?!

singaporeans are proud, that part is true, but not in a bad way. it's human nature to achieve. i'm sure you have not heard of A.I (no, not artificial intelligence...duh!)
re-unite with malaysia, you say? keep dreaming. whatever.
you opinions about singapore (and other questions you asked) shows your ignorance, bigotry, and arrogance. you have no respect for yourself.
