How about something personal - mums and grandmas always appreciate the personal touch. Are you any good at jewellery-making? You could always just get some nice beads and 'plastic elastic' in a local haberdashery and make some pretty bracelets in colours they'd like. Perhaps make a set of lavender bags for your nan - they're REALLY easy, depending on how complicated you want them to be:
Cut circles out of some nice pale fabric (lightweight but not too thin) with pinking shears and get some ribbon to match or tone - white and purple go well together for this. They'll need to be about 12 cm across at their widest.
Then get a cotton wool ball, put about a dozen drops of lavender oil on it (you can add real lavender flowers too if you have any), then pop it in the centre of the fabric circle.
Put a basic running stitch around the circumference of the circle a couple of cm from the top, then gently pull it tight (this is why the fabric can't be too thick) so you have a little pouch with the scented cotton inside. Put the needle through the bunched part a few times to stop it collapsing once you let go.
Then all you need to do is add the ribbon. It should stay in place itself but you can always pop a few stitches through it just in case.
Other ideas if you're less creative or have no time:
Scatter cushions.
Their favourite film soundtrack (try CDWOW.com or PLAY.com - they're really good, and cheap too, as they don't add on P&P or their own overheads to the price - should still deliver by Xmas at this stage).
Some nice smellies - www.fragonard.com are a small French company who do really nice, delicate, genuine natural fragrances, and they're very reasonable - Capucine, Verveine, Rose and Freesia are all very nice... Check delivery dates for Xmas though.
Or check out Boots' 3 for 2 offers - Simple but they'd go down well if you run out of more interesting ideas (or time!).
If you've a little more than £10 to spend, then try Molton Brown too - their bubble baths are out of this world and go down a treat with anyone who has a functioning nose!
If they're both still fairly sprightly, why not get them tickets to something you can all three do as a girl's night out, if not, then how about something even more simple, like a voucher from you promising to cook a nice meal for them, or be at their service for a day (depending on how your family functions of course!).
Books - 'The Time Traveller's Wife' is a good read. A nice bit of romantic comedy or fantasy would go down well to snooze under after a big Xmas lunch too!
Have a look in a National Trust shop (assuming you are in the UK?) - they usually have a good range of fun and interesting things for ladies over a certain age.
Or go all out silly and get something fun like a set of juggling balls, a cute lamp that changes colour or a supersoaker... 'Handbags at dawn!'

I'm in the NY-area and check this site out for events/activities/suggestions in the area. They are running 7 days of "overlooked" online shopping ideas - some are unique and some are "duh, why didn't I think of that one" types. The tips are in their 5th day (2 more to go). Have a look (on the right side of the page in the daily updates http:/www/PrimeViste.com

The best present anyone can give is a handmade card with a personalized message of how grateful you are for that person to be in your life. How much you care for them and how wonderful it is to be able to see them for another Christmas. You may want to tell them how much they have influenced your life, and how you are looking forward to their continued presense in your life in the future. Finally, tell them how much you love them and how much you appreciate them. Cost of paper to make the card..maybe a dime, Cost of the reaction you will get...priceless!!
Merry Christmas and just enjoy another Christmas with your wonderful relatives...because so many people will unfortunately, not be able to.

I bought both my nan and my mum tickets to see Slipknot... they can go together. I thought it would nice to bring them together as they don't see each other very often... I'm also giving them a fiver each for a half bottle of Vodka that they can smuggle into the gig... they'll have a blast!

For my "hard to buy for" grandma I purchased a "memories" book called "Grandma tell me your memories. . . " for her to record her thoughts and memories about her past. I think she'll have fun reminiscing and I know when she's gone we'll enjoy being able to pass on her memories and wisdom. Check out this website for personalized items.

How about some Christmas-themed scented candles? or flowers? or even just some nice Christmas ornaments? Try getting somethin with their names on it, like a Christmassy mug with their name, so they will appreciate it even more.
