I get zapped all the time, even sometimes in Summer. Sux. Partly dry air I'm told. Also might be my waist-length and thick hair, or that I don't use fabric softener (makes me itch). Ka-POW!

Cool air brings out the static Electricity....
I recommend Static Guard spray... And wearing gloves...
Most static electricity... Stays in your hair and clothes...
To cut down on some shocks, Gloves help...
Other... Before you touch metal grab a tree or put on your gloves.
If you don't have gloves you can carry a dryer sheet around til you get some gloves... Then put your gloves in the dry with a dryer sheet to help cut down on the static electricity...
Some people can cause more then normal levels with the clothes they wear...
ZZZZAAAAPPPP,,,, OOOHCCCH
Good Luck....

It depends on what you're wearing. Usually wool creates some static electricity and when you touch some objects you feel it discharged through your body.

You could have been pushing the door with your butt. Try to remember to touch something metalic first before you reach for the door. With your fingers it zaps the tips and not the nips!
(Ireally should be asleep now)

I found that if I hold my keys in my hand and touch the doorknob with the key I can avoid shocks.

It could be your shoes (most likely), try rubber soles or it could be your underwear (nylon), try cotton. Failing that, wear a rubber band around your wrist, that works!
