Where do all the odds socks go?
It drives me to despair.
No matter how I wash the things
One goes to, who knows where?
Ten socks inside a pillowcase
And all of them are mine.
I pull them out once they are washed
To count them. Yep. There's nine!
What is it with these wash machines?
I wish that it would stop.
So many socks I've lost in there
I could have filled a shop.
And why just socks for heaven sake?
It simply goes too far
I never lose a shirt, or vest,
nor underpants or bra.
Could the thing be eating them?
No. Somehow I think not.
Nor is it some strange payment
Like a laundermat type slot.
I wonder what would happen
If so sad a day will come
That in the wash machine I put
Not two socks - only one?
And if I sit by that machine
And Guard it like a sentry
Would I be surprised to find
The metal barrel empty?
Oh where do all the odd socks go?
I'll never understand
The only way I'll keep them all
Is wash the things by hand!

The washing machine consists of two stainless steel drums but we can only see one through the glass door. Very often some small laundry ends up between both drums and it is very difficult to get them back unless you take the machine into pieces. The disappearing laundry can damage the water pump besides making the machine smell bad because there is always wet items in the drum. To avoid all this you can use a special netting bag and put all small items inside, like socks and hankies. They will be washed but they will all stay together in the bag.

It seems like the washing machine eats them but I accidentally discovered what really happens to them.
One day I was putting on sweat shirt I had not worn in a long time and sock drops out of the sleeve - one that had missing for a very long time.
I think the socks are there hidden in our clean clothes, quietly waiting to surprise when we least expect it.
I try to put my socks in a garment bag with my nylons but often forget. So I still end up with odd socks. I just place them in the sock draw and patiently wait for its mate to surprise me so it can be reunited with its mate.
Of course if they were having difficulties, they may not want to be reunited. Maybe those socks end up in friends sleeve and never return.
Sock society is so hard to decipher....
Hope this helps!

the most effective way to stop it from happening is to join the socks pair (before putting in the machine) by a small stich. just once through the fabric will do. and when u put the socks in the drawer, roll one like you roll a piece of paper and put it inside the other one and then re-roll. it really works.
i havent lost a single socks since my mom taught me this simple trick.
though you can do away with the stich thing. ;)

Didn't you hear about the new fashion trend of wearing mismatched socks and tennies
I think there should be a convention where everyone brings their sock and see if it may match somebodies sock then negotiate who gets the pair

I think that happens to everyone! BUT, I finally got a grip on it. When I take my dirty socks off, I fold them together when I toss them in the laundry basket, then when I place them in the washer, I seperate them.
