Long before pornographic movies became mentionable in public, there was another use for the triple x symbol, and that was to designate hard liqour. In particular, cartoons and later films showing jugs of liquor were often marked xxx meaning that it was the 'hard stuff'. Don't forget, a lot of this imagery was used during the prohibition days, in America.
So xxx can refer not only to the content, but to the quality (bootleg, homebrew, home movies) and to a moral comment on it (as in, "This stuff ought to be prohibited".)

The X in X-Men refers to one of 2 things either a) a genetic x-factor" that mutants have in their genetic make-up that gives them their powers and abilities OR b) Xavier as in Professor Charles Xavier, the team's founder. While Charles has never said exactly why he called the team X-Men, there have been 1 or 2 allusions by other characters that he chose to name the team after himself.

Well apparently the rating XXX was created by the adult film industry so as to seperate it from ratings of X. X rated films etc. refer to stories about sexuality and are only meant for viewing by adult audiences. The adult film industry created the XXX to show people that this was a film all to do with actual intercourse.
