Metamorphosis give insects a greater chance to adapt to different environment or niches, thus more chance of survival.

During each of the stages in metamorphosis, insects live in different environments and eat different things.

For example, caterpilar eats leaves of trees, while adult butterfly drink water or nectar or sweets. etc..
