It should be abolished. It's an outdated system and the country is more than ready for a popular vote. As we like to brag to the rest of the world about our Democracy, this would help solidify that position and cut down the confusion and controversy the electoral college creates. It doesn't make sense to keep a system around that effectively nullifies a persons vote if they live in a state that gives all its electoral votes to someone they didn't vote for.

No. We live in a Federalist style Republic. We have a Federal Government who is assigned certain inumerated powers, all other powers thus are reserved for the states, who based on their Constitutions pass on certain powers to local principalities. To take out the electoral college and institute a popular election would destroy the idea of our federalist government. See, the Federal Government derives its power from the States. If we institute a popular election, that is taken away. The results would be that the Federal Government would grow beyond any recognition of what the Constitution initiated. We are a country that supports individualistic ideas, a large Federal Government would trounce those ideas of individuality.

It`s plain and simple OUR PRESIDENT SHOULD BE VOTED IN BY HOW MANY PEOPLE VOTE FOR HIM . This person should represent the thoughts and feeling of the people and that is not accurately portrayed in the electoral process...
