My friend who is a guy will be all alone at christmas. He lives on his own and has no family around. His other mates will probably be with their families. I have asked him several times to come round to mine but each time he says he will be alright cos he's always been alone at christmas for many years. I don't know what to do cos it's gonna make me sad at christmas knowing he's all on his own. Have you any ideas what i could do or suggest to him, something that he might agree to?

If he is a good friend & wouldn't mind if you popped into see him for a few hours & maybe take some food around
not a meal because he may have his meal planned
just a nice little Christmasy snack & a drink & a present
see if that works what do you reckon?

This might suprise you but some people don't really like the social aspect of Christmas and like being alone and letting it slide by quietly. Making him go to your family celebration and endure the awkwardness of meeting all these new people and having to smile when he doesn't feel like it may not be very appealing. Let him be and accept it. If you need to appease your own feelings drop in for a bit and have a drink just to see that he is in fact OK. You sound like a good friend to have and it helps him knowing he has you caring even by your offer.

Make him a movie themed basket. A DVD of his admired action picture or something new that he should be certain, some popcorn and different action picture snacks. Then he ought to ask you over to video exhibit the action picture at the same time!
