I'm sick bloody stereotypes that Americans have of Australia. I'm sick of Americans thinking that in Australia people ride kangaroos and wrestle crocadiles and that Australia is some "magical beer-drinking land" full of houses in the outback hundreds of miles away from your neighbour! When will Americans learn to be a little less ignorant and show some interest in Australian things such as Australian football, etc.

Because, in the US that is what is shown on television. A lot of people believe what they see on TV and don't know much else. I wouldn't know much of anything about Australia except that my senior year in high school we had an exchange student from there. Anyway, cut some slack for the ignorant ones.

I can understand why that would bother you. It never is easy to be stereotyped, especially when you know how off it really is. I admit I do think of the crocs and kangaroos and the random water buffalo's. But I also think of some of the pretty architecture in Sydney and my old pen pal. She was always into ballet. You know, though I would love to know more about where you live and I would definitely love to visit. Hopefully, especially with all of the info at our fingertips, we will get a better grasp on what Australia really is about. Take care!

Hey I'm an American here in the LandDownUnder and to set the record straight ..
Its not a magical beer drinking land .. they reserve that for every second Thursday ..

Not .all Aussie don't all wrestle crocs ( they do say crikey a fair bit ) and we all know that not everyone can afford a kangaroo in their garage ...they are reserved for those employed at centrelink ..lol

Tassie has "betta" milk then the rest of the country ...and Collingwood rules

a good type of what you purely wrote replaced into particularly unique. before you initiate attempting to call out American's on their perspectives on Australia you would favor to analyze out a number of your own perspectives. Sydney is the capital of latest South Wales no longer Australia. Canberra is Australia's capital. it truly is Gabriella Cilmi no longer Chilme. Her and the Rogue investors somewhat? we've various of artists and bands that are more effective. there are so a lot extra impacts on television and contained in the media then purely the simpson's portraying that image of Australia. Ever heard of Steve Irwin, crocodile dundee, the action picture 'Australia'? a good type of Australia is a desolate tract, no no longer all of it truly is yet a good type of it truly is. ACDC were formed in Sydney, that doesn't in any respect recommend that the contributors were born in Australia. do no longer make generalisations about what a 'generic' Australian is/does. I listen human beings use 'G'day' and fantastically 'mate' each and each and every of the time. I somewhat have in no way considered a kangaroo in a zoo, i have considered some in sanctuaries. a good type of persons i comprehend have considered them contained in the wild. i have been to Sydney a pair of circumstances, stay in melbourne and function been to some different states. i do not see even 0.5 of the quantity of the kinds of autos you've reported in an afternoon in any respect. i have in no way had a t-bone or lamb chop, the in problem-free words element i have ever had from a BBQ is a sausage, in problem-free words ever considered sausages, burgers and veggie-burgers being cooked on one. we do no longer have shrimp on the BBQ because we call them prawns.

That's not what I think about.

I think about a guy in a safari hat, and a jeep. I think of Steve Irwin. I think of b u l l schi t t gun control laws, bald men singing badly, and the wonderful warmth of the sun.

Oh yes, and orangish-brown dirt. And people who hate all Americans. The last one who didn't was Steve Irwin.

EDIT:

Was Helen Reddy Australian? I think about her too. But not so much the Xanadu lady.

When I think of Australia I think of a beautiful country being destroyed, natural resoures depleted and lots of screwed up racism. Australian soldiers are exported everywhere and you have leveled your reefs. Good Job. Now your just like Americans!
