We set aside Monday nites as Family Home Evening no matter how busy the rest of week is. We plan at least that one evening for the family to be together. Having a board game is an easy activity to share. There are games for most age groups. We may let children take turns to decide what to play.

Board games are a great way to bring the family together without TV, and Mormons are passionate about strong family unity.

Wasn't aware that they did more than anyone else, but it makes sense. They are very family oriented, and boardgames are a great family activity. Further, Mormons tend to seek out what we might call "clean" entertainment, again, boardgames usually fit that criteria. Besides, a good board game is a lot of fun.

Thinking back to my youth, I grew up Mennonite, a group with some superficial cultural resemblance to Mormons, and I know we played a lot of boardgames and card games too. And that was long before the current wave of great boardgames hit.

I actually have a family member who invented a board game, and I invented one as well, but it's sitting in my closet. Whenever I figure out how to market it I guess I'll pick it up again. Maybe people who play board games together are more team-oriented rather than self-oriented. Most PC games can only be played by one or at the most 2 people, after all.

They are all about the family unit. Board games are one of the few things that a group can do without wanting to kill each other.

Because we try to do things/play games/recreational activites that are wholesome and uplifting and that allow us to spend time with friends and family...
Wow, can we not do ANYTHING without there being someone to ask WHY DO MORMONS DO "THIS"...
Come on people.

quite possibly, it's the woman of the house that is so insistent on playing board games, so as to keep her man away from her and again creating another kid!
