I'm an American. And though I've not done any traveling outside the country (except to Canada), my friend's son has traveled the world. He says that he hasn't been to one country yet that *likes* Americans. And, I believe him. The majority of Americans live from paycheck to paycheck, are heavily in debt, and worried about how to feed their kids. Then there are the elite, who have so much money that they don't know what to do with. Then there is the shrinking middle-class. These Americans have plenty of money. When I say plenty, I mean that they have what they need plus some to save for old age.

But what makes Americans deluded? The same thing that makes people from other countries deluded. When one grows up in any particular culture, one tends to believe that it is the only good way. Peace.

I never believed that. You've been spending too much time listening to the jingoist fools in our country. No country is necessarily better than any other; at least in the USA everyone is considered equal (on paper, anyway), opportunities exist for all races and both genders, and the rule of law applies to everyone (most of the time). Then there's the Constitution, with its guarantees of freedom of speech, faith, press and the promise of due process of law. No, we're not perfect, but compared to a lot of the world, we've got it pretty good.

Greetings,

It appears you have a very limited view of Americans. Anthropologists from all over the world would fail a student on the spot if your statement was repeated in a classroom. We should never classify a country full of millions of people as having a singular lifestyle or belief system.

Come here for yourself someday and see what all the fuss is about. I believe you will have a change of heart. Chin-up mate.

Ta Ta,
Tristan

I, as I have said before, have nothing but praise and affection for the Americans I have had the very good fortune to meet and work with in the past. I am not anti-American.

BUT I live in Thailand now where the national diet is healthy, and I hate to see, mostly young Thais, stuffing themselves with fattening American Junk Food.

Soon they will be as obese as many Yanks are, and it's a horrible
prospect.....

No, I think it has something to do with the shear amount of fear that is generated by the media over there.

I would like to add that probably over 90% of American are just as sane and level as the rest of us...probably 99% actually and it is wrong to typecast an entire nation.

You're right, not everybody wants to be American or to copy our lifestyle.

But many millions in the world do -- including my parents, who risked their lives to make it to the US from Cuba on a makeshift raft.

They were lucky -- not everybody makes it. There are a lot of sharks and rough weather in the Florida Straits.

Some people are dying to get into America. Literally.

whats the point of your question if you seem to already have your answer..

by the way not all americans are like that.

i do love cheese burgers though, only from a place called IN N OUT. and if we thought every one loved our country why would have been attacked?

so obviously not every one loves the US, and not ever one loves our life style, you have made that clear.

I am tired of this anti-American sentiment. Why generalize Americans? There are about 300 million of them.

There is nothing wrong with having a high standard of living. And there is nothing wrong with Americans. And I'm saying this as a Canadian!

Racism and bigotry have no place here. Please leave.
