l have a gateway windows xp and l don't know if l have the burner or not can you help ?

The front of your cd drive should have a logo on it.

If the logo reads "CD ReWritable", then it is a CD burner only. It may also say DVD Rom, which means it can play DVDs, but not copy them.

If the logo says anything like "DVD ReWritable" or "DVD Writable +/-" then you have a DVD burner.

Get your exact model number and then go to the vendor's website. I think it should be "www.gateway.com" and check if your model has a DVD burner or not.

On the DVD drive you should be seeing some thing like RW (means Read write) then its a reader

Also, if you find some thing like 52X - 24X- 48X (anything like that with three numbers then also you can be sure that it is reader and writer)
