There really are no signs...that is what a p.a.p, smear at the o/gyn's office is for. A sample of tissue is pulled (scratched is what it feels like) off of the cervix and is then sent to a lab to be seen under a microscope. The lab tech is looking for any abnormal cells. Often times referred to as dysplasia. If an abnormal result comes back the patient will be called back for a "higher" grade test. Also at that appointment, there will be an order for a blood test...they will test for the HPV virus (genital warts) usually.
So really there are no signs or symptoms for cervical cancer....that is why it is so important for preventative care. It is one of the most easily curable cancers..but can't be cured if it is not detected.
Condoms and abstinence can prevent the spread of HPV..the cancer causing virus.
The second link below is really the most informative.

there are no symptoms of hpv. if you have actual cancer, there can be abnormal bleeding but it takes many years to develop cancer from hpv. you could also get genital warts. hpv itself has no symptoms and many people have it and have no problems
