Dude, first of all, it's JIMI Hendrix. Comparing him and David Bowie is apples and oranges. They played completely different music. Bowie is a great lyricist, singer, and a master of changing personas. His songs are usually excellent, but he can't do what Hendrix did, even with the help of great guitarists like Mick Ronson or Brian May. But he's been making music since 1969, or 35 years.
Jimi Hendrix's whole career only lasted 4 years, but he was a musical revolutionary. Not only a great lyricist, composer, vocalist and arranger, but also was groundbreaking in the way he used his studio.
As a guitarist, he was named the Best Ever by Rolling Stone in the 2003 poll of musicians/critics.....33 years after his death.
He was able to squeeze sounds out of his guitar that no one has been able to duplicate since, even in this day of digital modeling amp/effect pedals.
Hendrix seemed like he was tuned into some higher source that you can see if you ever watch any of his DVD's. He was like an open channel, and almost always exceeded audience expectations. A true Master that we haven't seen the likes of since....
He had his own bag of tricks that no one has been able to use to the same end....a real virtuoso, with a short time to change the way people played the electric guitar. And he did....JIMI wins hands down. Just read what his peers (Townshend, Beck, Clapton, Trower, etc.) have to say about his abilities.

Hendrix he was an awsome guitar player....
I agree though thier music was totally different and hard to compare!!!!!!
