If you need to keep a baby warm, wrap them in a blanket (infant) also, keep a light hat on the baby's head. Babies can lose up to 80% of their heat thru their head. Keep it warm.
USE NO artificial heat sources, only blankets. Don't smother the baby, either.

Well, if you are talking about protecting from getting a cold..... my daughter didnt have a cold until she was 5 months old and it was only mild congestion that lasted around 3 days. She hasnt had a cold since either. I breastfeed my daughter so that helps fight sickness a lot. Also I just use common sence and not take her around sick people if I can help it. I go out every other day to go shopping and I take my daughter every where I go, and she still doesnt get sick.
If you are trying to protect your baby from the cold, to keep your baby warm, try swaddling in a blanket, make sure that your house is nice and warm. If you are warm, then your baby should be warm. If you are going outside, dress your baby according to the weather outside. And if its really cold, make sure that you put a warm hat on him/her. Just use your head and you will be fine.
Good luck and Congrats!
Hugs!

A New Born Baby is just like a Rose Flower. you need to take gooood care of him/her.
use warm cloths.
Make him weare Dipers and make him weare very warm cloths. Prefered pure wool. this is soft and tender to his body. please do not forget to apply good ammount of Telcom Powder (Jonson/Wipro)
when the baby is sleeping always cover him properly. cause most of the time in the night we sleep and the blanket comes off the baby so role him in it.
see your baby will for sure sleep very well and yes he will not have ny problems.
Good luck
God Bless

You mean being cold or getting sick?
The general rule is to dress baby in one more layer than you would wear, so a onesie under his other clothes is usually enough.
If you mean getting sick, BREASTFEED! Baby gets antibodies to anything either of you are exposed to that way.

If the mother can breastfeed she should. That is the best way as the mother's immunities are passed to the child especially in the first couple days after birth.

Note : Try not to use heaters because your baby's body will get used on it and it'll not be healthy
