The word ****** or ***** has become a commonly used word in society today. Many people say that by using the word, it helps cleanse it's filthyness and history so it can be used enough in that it won't harm anyone. But some people still consider it a racial slur and very hurful. What are your guys' opinions. Is using the "n" word bad or good today? By the way, my friends black and I'm not racist. Just want to hear other peoples' opinons.

The word was nearly dead in common White society, seldom even replaced by "the N word" unless quoting someone else. However, the word is being revived by Blacks in their music, and film portrayals. It is also so commonly used amongst Blacks themselves that it is now giving a whole new generation of non-Black the idea that it is OK to use this word.

This is a Black problem, made worse by Blacks, but Blacks in Q&A deny that it is WRONG for them to use ****ER, but emphasize that is is wrong for Whites to use it.

Silly double standard which is coming back to bite Blacks on the ****.

Blacks are of the ***** race, unless the scientific term has been changed. ***** was more polite word, N*gger was the common word. The word has been made terribly IMPORTANT in the last 40 years. It could die, if Blacks would let it.

Thats a very tricky questions. First I would like to address that the origin of the the word is very negative, having to do with the relationships between blacks and whites during a time when there was even legislation saying that the races were unequal. The "n" word has to long of a history being a negative connotation towards black people and should be erased from everyones vocabulary.

Its a racial slur. No ways of getting around it. If it offends somebody of that race to use it, then it is a racial slur period. Doesn't matter what context because people who hear pick it up and use, and it is portrayed as a racial slur. So no, it shouldn't be used by anyone.

Its a word full of hate , and it brings hate with it --Simple as that

To me, the 'N' word is one of the most hurtful & hateful things, that can come out of someone's mouth...no matter what your race is...
I absolutely despise this word..no matter the context it is used in.

I still remember the hurt I felt, in the 6th grade, when it was found out, that I am German & Cherokee Indian...I became an Injun Nazi....in a town full of mostly Irish...it was hard to deal with...eventually they stopped calling me that...but I still remember hearing it...

I am teaching my kids, that racial slurs, not only hurt the person it is said too/about, but also the person saying it...since it lowers their character...& makes them look like fools...I have seen/heard them, correcting their friends, from time to time...which makes me proud to know that I taught them a valuable lesson...

I think it's bad to use the word, no matter who uses it. I don't agree that by using it so much it cleanses its filthiness, because no matter how often black people say it between themselves, they will still find it offensive and hurtful coming from a white person. Continuing to use the word is ignorant, it only makes things worse and keeps racism going. It keeps a divide between black and white people.

I stayed in austrailia for 2 weeks and they don't consider it a bad word over there and they think that its funny that we put so much store in a word and thats what it is a word, if you put a lot of belief into it, it will offend you, if you brush it off you will be the better person, i don't give two shshits if some jerks was running around calling me cracker or polack

Not this question again, ok here it is. The word is getting sanitized by over use making it acceptable. The words meaning is a stupid, ignorant, lazy uneducated all around useless person. So if people don't mind calling each other that then that's OK with me. However we need one standard for it, if it is OK for one group it should be OK for another, that in and of itself is racism, or at least that's what they called it when whites imposed two sets of rules

The "N" word and so many others are very hurtful and should never be used....not even in anger. When this word slips out it is because it is buried deep inside of the person who said it. We have been calling each other names to hurt our feelings for centuries. Humans are less than perfect.

because it was once a hurtful word i feel that it shouldn't be used.. younger generations do feel it's cool no harm done but the older generations are very upset about it..they feel even young black men are forgettting where those words generated and that is it dishonering them..like by sa ying those words they have forgotten something.. i don't judge though and i dont' use those words only because they generated from hate..
