I also live in missouri and i think 43 hours is the least amount of time. I know there is a hospital in cape girardeau mo that lets you take some classes to leave earlier though. I had a c-section and i delivered at 5:49 pm on a friday night and i left the hospital around 1:00 pm Sunday. I had my son at Poplar Bluff though. Hope this helps!

Typically, its about a 3 day stay. It used to be at least a week (when my Mom was having kids). It's partly due to insurance companies (and as was stated earlier, the fast "kick-outs") but it's also due to doctor's and hospitals realizing that if all is well with mother and baby, it's important that they can go home to start being a family. Most babies have a "billirubin" issue which makes them appear to be jaundiced (the liver can't process the mass amounts of billirubin which is a natural byproduct of the whole birthing process) and that doesn't show up for a few days. Hence why hosptial stays used to be longer. The "cure" for the billirubin is UV light (those soft blue lights you'll see some of the babies under in the nursery at the hospital); the at home cure is indirect sunlight. It actually breaks down the billirubin so the body can pass it. But, to get back to your question, I had my son at 5pm on a Tuesday and I went home about 3:30 on Thursday afternoon. The extended stay was also because they did his circumcision late Thursday morning, so, they just wanted to be sure that everything was ok. And I really appreciated 2 nights in the hospital - not because I liked being there, but because I knew that it was going to be the last 2 nights of peaceful sleep and the last 2 days of sleeping in I was going to get for a LOOONG time! LOL I wish you much luck and hope that you have a very uneventful delivery!

Usually they will keep you over night one night... but you can request to be discharged earlier if you so choose... Usually they want to keep you at least a few hours (5-6) to make sure your uterus is shrinking properly and to make sure your bleeding is normal as well as other vitals are stable... You don't want to rush out too quickly and have something go wrong but you don''t want to stay a week either...

I advise staying at least over night... utilize the nursery staff and get some rest it may be the last you get for a while... Also get a nice warm shower as quickly after birth as possible it will make you feel alot better really fast just to be clean (you will sweat during delivery, as well as have other fluids leaving your body) a nice shower to clean it all up followed by a nice clean fresh outfit will do wonders for your outlook...

Hospital food is pretty bland but after a long hard labor you really don't notice the taste as you just inhale the food not chew it anyway....

Take a nice pair of slipper socks to the hospital with you... my feet were always like ice, shortly after birth and slipper socks felt nice and warm... They are also easy to slip on and off should your feel get warm... Also take a nice soft elastic waist jogging or sweat suit to wear after your shower (I always laundered mine with fabric softener and sealed it in a ziploc bag so when I put it on it smelled as clean as it was and felt wonderful) Also don't forget a rubber band or scrunchy if you have long hair it's a godsend to just pull your hair back and forget about it that first day...

If you have a vaginal delivery and don't have any problems, you have the option to leave right away (some people I know of leave within hours!), and although they do like for you to stay in overnight, they cannot make you!
If you have a c-section, they keep you in for a few days and you have to poo before they'll let you leave, to make sure everything is working! (sorry!! lol)

Guess I should say that with my LO, I had her at 1:07 saturday morning and left Sunday afternoon...they wanted me to stay in until monday, but I didn't want to be there that long, especially since it was mine and hubby's first wedding anniversary that day...even though we couldn't do anything, I at least wanted to sleep in the same bed on our anniversary night! lol
We did have to get up early monday morning to bring baby to the hospital for that second heel prick, though...had to be there at around 7am...or was it 6?

in australia if all goes well and both are healthy, you can be sent home in about 3 hours, personally for a first baby I think this is silly, but if you have support at home and follow up then there is no reason for staying. So best of health to you and your baby.

1 ~ 2 days in the US, no need for an extensive stay. My mom had 8 kids & never spent more than 2 days in the hospital. PS: I'm 55 so not just recent insurance fast kick-outs.

with my second baby (in Washington State) I went home the next day. I had her late in the evening, slept through the night, and left the next afternoon/evening. I think there might be a rule about staying 24 hours after the baby is born but we kind of overlooked that with our second ... but it was fairly close to 24 hours.

I live in Ky and the normal stay is 2 days, its so you can heal and rest before you go home. If you tear though maybe an extra day. A csection you stay for like 4-5 days. Good luck

Its all up to you and the baby. As long as you are both well, theres no real reason to stay in hospital, though it may be wise to stay in overnight and get some rest after the labour. Good luck!
