I'm not sure what you mean by "progressive", but there is some logic to be addressed here. Let's toss out the "hippie genes and LSD use" thing and replace it with "baby boomers", who were born in and around the '50s. They were born into a world of unimaginable peace and abundance. The 30 years prior, the world had seen 2 major wars and a devastating depression. Very hard times. Then life is handed to the largest gene pool in history...on a silver platter. There were no "causes", except to 'raise your hand', 'wait your turn', 'don't chew gum in class' and get anesthetized by Beaver Cleaver, Father Knows Best, Lassie and game shows. By the time the '60s rolled around, there was a whole lot of bottled-up aggression and the Viet Nam War, the JFK assassination, drugs, sex and rock and roll provided a rich mix for some venting. When the dust settled, this group converged with the technological explosion and put the same verve and energy into it as they did to antidisestablimentarianism. They became the generation of excess...the people who forged the DotCom Era. But, you'd be surprised at how many of this generation became repulsed by Left Wing perspectives. Yes, some never grew-up, some remained activists, some ACLU lawyers, but the astonishing growth, leaps and bounds in science and technology and even the people who have been elected into public office over the last 3 decades, are the products of this generation. For that matter, it is hard to point a finger anywhere else at today's secularism. But, "genes and LSD" had little or nothing to do with all of this. LSD usage was not as wide-spread as the media would have you believe. Kind of like...uh...the media telling us that we can stop the Earth from warming...

No I do not !

I subscribed to that to theory once until I came across the Rehnquist - Gallagher Studies done from 1978 - on that showed avowed Hippies from 1967 until 1971 are NOW in their late 50's baby Boomers all, are NOW, 87% Conservative NOT Far Left Wing ACLU Adoring Hyper-Liberal Democrats!

It's a fact! Not what many would think and certainly not reported in the Liberal Left biased media! !

To say that they had no impact is just nieve. The hippie generation spawned a very narcisitic communial-socialist movement. To the point now where way are a Socialist-Democracy without even realizing it.
