They see a dilemma that is simple enough to where it shouldn't exist. That's the only reason.
If I hear of a situation that sounds simple to me, I automatically minimize it by offering "advice," and that in itself is an attempt to assist.
Otherwise, I question the motive of charities. I think those are tax-deductions in disguise.
Think about it. A person stops on the freeway to help someone, probably because they believe they can solve the problem in a hurry- or the motive may be ulterior- to impress a person who they are in some way intrigued by, and the theory is that they wouldn't do the same for a person they were not as interested in.

Some of us, like myself, seek to help others because we feel it's the right thing to do.
Or we feel that, should we ever need help ourselves, we would be glad to receive it from others, and so we, in turn, try to offer it to those who do need it.

I believe that those who help others do so because of empathy. We literally feel the other's pain, and so want to alleviate it.
