I am from Texas no one I know is like the TV portrayal. They have to do something to hit all the stereotypes or Texas just seem like real people the same as anyone anywhere.

I'm from Texas - I don't need a stereotype. I know that I'm well-educated and intelligent (presuming you consider an IQ of 150 to be intelligent), and am a good and decent human being. I don't live in Texas now, mostly because I don't deal well with the heat. It's just like any other state or nation - there are a few bad people, but mostly a lot of good decent human beings trying to do the best they can.

They tote bibles and guns and they think themselves somehow superior to other people. Dallas people seem very pretentious and Fort Worth people are more down to earth. San Antonio, Houston and Austin seem to have an even different type of people.

And I lived in Texas. I must say I made many, many friends in Texas in spite of the fact that I am not pretentious, nor bible or gun toting.

Texas is a part of America, but they are no better or worse.

Peace.

As someone who was born there, then traveled, came back, left again, and now currently living in the great state of Texas, my take is that they are generally warm and friendly, very religious, and a tad bit ignorant, sometimes. My pet peeve with Hollywood's take, is the use of "yee...haw!" or "Howdy!" Nobody says that sh*t! It does, however, crack me up everytime I see a "mullet head" as they often are a walking stereotype.

All people from Texas are happy, neighborly, fun-loving, proud of their home state, slow to "get riled," inclined toward cowboyish or cowgirlish style, like to have a barbecue, eat lotsa beef, say "Howdy, ma'am," either drive a pickup or ride a horse, and think BIG.

People from Texas are friendly and honest, they know a lot of Spanish, and are very proud of their state. We also know that our state is better than whatever state you are from. "Don't mess with Texas"....now that's a slogan.
