It sounds like it has to do with the home. Like make it my home-feather my nest. Or maybe it means, 'make me feel at home'. I dunno, seems like that makes sense ;)

It means to put the finishing touches on something to make it warm and comfortable, more homey. After the nest is constructed, the mama bird feathers it to help it stay warmer and be softer for her little ones.

I think it is talking about your home to make it comfortable. Besides a bird use feather's in their own nest to make it soft for it's babies.
