your swordtail is actually a mutation of the platy and as someone who has been in the trade for a number of years i have noticed this mutation in particular to have aggressive tendencies. Adding more females per male into the community is a very good start at keeping the peace. Alot of times a higher capacity of female to male will level your dominate male out. Just so you're not mistaken, the pelvic fin( that's the bottom fin closest to the tail) is fanned out on a female platy v the male who is tucked in toward the abdomen. If that doesn't level out his temper, you may be left with no other choice but to exchange him for a more peaceful fish.

swordtails and platy come from the group of livebearers. They come from two different genus species. That doesn't have anything to do with what happened though. It is more than likely the cause of size difference and color attraction. Although they are black neon's, they still have a shine or a glow. They became attractive to chase after. If you want those, try the large variety of black neon's. Neons of all types should almost be kept to themselves due to their vulnerability, they can be kept with small danios and corydora cats easily. Good luck
