Certainly...there's the Salvation Army (I make sure I put something in the kettle each time I pass one), Animal Friends (a no-kill shelter in Pittsburgh), Jerry's Kids (that would be muscular dystrophy), Project Bundle-Up (Pittsburgh again, buys coats for underprivilaged children), Childrens' Hospital Free-Care Fund (local), WQED (local PBS television and NPR radio station), KDKA Turkey Fund (local TV station, provides Thanksgiving Meals for needy families), Light of Life (local homeless shelter) and the Animal Rescue League (trying to expand enough to become a total no-kill shelter by 2008).
Why? Because I am blessed with having a very good paying job. It's not one I particularly earned...it's more like I fell into it after I failed to graduate from college (spent too much time having fun and working at the campus radio station to go to class). I could still be working a series of dead-end jobs, but instead I got very lucky and ended making pretty decent money. Therefore, I feel like I have been very fortunate, and believe it is only right that I share the fruits of my good fortune with those who haven't been so lucky. Like Jesus said "What so ever you for the least of these, you do unto me." I'm just glad I have the money to share with all these deserving organizations.

No. I prefer to give to actual people..cuz with charities you never know how much of what you give actually goes to people in need. My x-husband is taking two trips to a certain part of Mexico to distribute food and clothing to the needy there (he made one trip but has one more truck load to take). I send stuff with him. Also, I feed the homeless (personally) on my birthday, mother's day and other days like that. That is how I like to celebrate.

I have given money to breast cancer research at The Ohio State University because my mom is a survivor. Stephanie Spielman Fund.
American Red Cross.
Special Olympics of Ohio because United Appeal cut them off.
A central Ohio organization for the blind whose name escapes me at the moment.
I used to give to United Appeal in Central Ohio but it seems they are not funding some groups that I think are deserving.
And I almost forgot - all the old clothing that I've "grown" out of I give to the Kidney Foundation for their thrift store.
