everyone keeps telling me that jade trees are so easy to take care of, well, i've killed a 30 year old tree that i was treesitting for my bf's dad. i bought him another one and a really nice cactus garden, the cactuses lived and grew, the jade tree is dead. can someone tell me the basics of caring for this type of plant. i have many hose plants, mainly tropical and cactuses and i've never had any problems until the dreaded jade.

you have to treat the jade plant like a cactus, water sparingly and make sure it has good drainage (it should have plenty of sand mixed with the potting soil)

There might be a plite in the soil.
Go get a book about jade trees and read up first before buying a new tree.

We had a jade plant for 26 years when we lived in the L.A. area. Now that I think of it, I don't think we ever watered it. We just let it do it's own thing and when we moved it was as healthy as ever.

To answer your question, treesitting.

I thought I had heard of everything, but treesitting?????????
A 30 year old tree should be able to take care of it's own self.

Instead of trying to tree-sit it or taking care of it. Send it to him when he's ready for it, let him take care of his own dam tree.

Have you tried peeing on it? Make sure you've passed a drug test first, you don't want to give it an overdose.
