Barring conspiracy theories the internet was first created in the 1930 - 40s as a series of connected military computers used for sending orders. As the technology of computing evolved Educational computers were linked into the network and it adopted the name ARPAnet. ARPAnet was largely used for reasearch (From the educational side) and rapid disemination of intel and orders on the military side. Following the development of the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and the inception of the World Wide Web, ARPANet was opened to the public and became known as 'the Internet' This occured in the early 90s.

It should also be noted that the original ARPANet is still around and accessible via the modern Internet. And that the Military now uses its own seperate, but in some places connected, 'Internet'.

ARPANET was a precursor to the internet, created by the US Defense Department in 1969. It linked mainly universities and research centers; the first two nodes were Stanford and UCLA. Universities joined fairly rapidly after that; I recall using an early version of the internet - just e-mail, really - when I was in school in 1978.

The internet started in 1908 in the Tesla laboratories. Telsa invented the modern computer and silicon chips 50 years before these inventions were patented by Silicon Valley frauds. He established a system of severs across the world and through these controlled much of the information which helped the West win the first world war. Telsa then destroyed all his servers and equipment and hid the existence of the silicon chip as his way of protesting against the rising dictatorships of Europe.
