I'm going to a semi-formal event and I have no idea what to wear as a jacket. I already picked out my dress (it's a blue-green halter dress that goes a little past my knees) and I've decided on black shoes, but my problem is I don't know what kind of jacket to wear. It's held on January 20th so it's going to be pretty cold. I was thinking of a black blazer but I don't want to be freezing that night. Any ideas?

a peacoat if you plan on taking it off before the dance or a nice black velvet jacket if you can find one.if you want to wear it during. Usually you can just wear the boys jacket if it gets cold.. and he's gentlemanly enough. I always wore my dates jacket without issue if I got cold.

Well, it depends on alot of things...

It's gonna be cold outside... does that mean the soiree will be outdoors or indoors? If you're planning on using the coat as PART of the look: DON'T wear one that is shorter than your dress!!! It's not classy.

If long coats are not your thing... don't go above 4 inches from the hem of your dress... UNLESS it is a cropped jacket that will be worn as part of the whole look... Actually the crop style sounds sexy with the dress style you've chosen... the jacket can be edwardian, pouffy, endless match...

Color? Blue-green is pretty versatile for the holidays, so black anything is a good choice... but you have concerns about the cold... SOooo... I say, as long as it's warm enough, long enough to keep you from freezing, and matching... honey, wear whatever the heck is comfotrable for you... hypothermia is never IN... good luck and happy partying!!!

hope you live in a cold climate, cause I have the jacket for you! Real fur if you can afford it, and faux fur if you can't! Any color, blue, black, brown, winter white, eggshell, short, or mid length.

peacoats also look nice :]
i like blazers too though.

I think peacoats are the best bet & longer coats like this one http://www.forever21.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=FOREVER21&category%5Fname=Outerwear&product%5Fid=2033131338&Page=all
