A group of engineering students from Purdue University recorded that their licking machine, modeled after a human tongue, took an average of 364 licks to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop. They tried the same licking test on 20 volunteers and found that the average licks to the center were 252 licks.

well not as many as you might think.. with the onset of automated candy manufaturing.. sometimes they cheaply make these candies.. and when you start sucking on one, you realize the candy is not formed right and you actually run across a crack in it and the center is off to the side and you get to it within a couple of licks... I hate that...
