We should have invaded Mexico and taken it over instead of invading Iraq. At least that way we could have made it a state and keep all the Mexicans down there

Dunno.

Good question.

I do support LEGAL immigration, though.

My first thought is that you probably have not done anything to deserve the rights that thousands of Americans have fought and died for. Rights, no matter what your Momma or Daddy told you, are not deserved at birth. In this country, people tired of living under oppression from the elitist classes established those rights. They were established through force of arms, blood spilt and the agony felt when you loose a loved one.

These rights, although dwindling, have been maintained the same way. If you want to point fingers, point fingers at the politicians that are selling our rights for a place of temporary power. If you want to blame someone for the mass of illegal immigration then blame the business owners that hire them because they can get away with abuse that would not be tolerated by a citizen of this country because they would cry, “my civil rights are being abused.” Blame the Democrats that put NAFTA into place in the 70’s but don’t blame a race of people because they see opportunities and have learned to stroke the system.

I’ve tried to learn Spanish twice but have not been able to become adept enough to get a job as a manager. This rankles me, but not at the people that have been hired, but rather at the people that allow them a job without being able to converse in our countries language. By the by, the United States does have an official language and it is English. Of course who knows what it will be in 2020.

I would like to see English requirements for getting a job here but it can’t be accomplished by beating on somebody that has no incentive for learning. Change it with knowledge and votes not through the misdirection of finger pointing.

One last thing; has anyone heard of Kennewick Man or Viking artifacts on the Northeastern seaboard predating the flood of peoples from Mongolia who became the Native American Indians. Everybody displaces somebody.

you do realize, don't you, that early in your own history, americans moved into parts of mexico, I believe called texas, and others . why didn't you learn spanish. you were in their country. instead, you became strong enough that you invaded mexico and annexed these states. good grief, in every society alive, their are horror stories. I take it there is a bit of racism showing here. they have stronger ties to the land than you may have.
man alive, don't you think there is enough blood spilling around the world, including american. does any sane person truly want more bloodshed?

THEY think that since back in the 1700s and 1800s other Mexicans lived here, they have the right to live here too.

but I say, and this goes for some of those Native Americans out there too, that i was born here too, and i have just as much right to the land as you. maybe more, if you were born in Mexico.

you see, i am of German ancestry. but my ancestors were chased all through europe and asia (including Russia)before finally finding the USA as a safe refuge. i am not mad at Russia for doing that to my ancestors. if i went off on Russia, that would be absurd. so Native Americans claiming they have special rights because their ancestors lived here is absurd as well.

i may be failing to put my point across, but i'm trying.

hey! my ancestors were born here too, so why don't i have the 'special rights' that so-called 'natives' think they have??????
huh?? what's with that?

another thing. i am not a genius, but i'm pretty sure the Native Americans would still be using bows and arrows and living in huts and 'natural' dwellings if it weren't for european explorers and settlers. if i were an indian, i would choose modern technology and society over the slightly post-stone age.

Please do not judge all Mexicans by the actions of a few. I understand your anger, but MOST Mexicans do stay in Mexico , and many who do go th the U.S.learn English. Not all Americans are intelligent, well-mannered, honorable people either. I am an American living in Mexico, and most people here are ashamed of those radical Mexicans demonstrating in the U.S.

Because the US has no "national language," and people have a freedom to learn or not to learn. Yeah it makes life eaier for all of us if they do, but let me ask you this: How well did YOU do in your high school language classes? I bet you had a wicked hard time getting through French or Spanish, and they are EASY languages to learn. English is one of the most complex languages in the world, and it takes years to master. Cut people some slack, huh?

I hate to wake you up, but if you read the constitution, you'll find that it doesn't just guarantee rights to citizens, but to all people. Citizens have certain privileges (like voting) that non-citizens don't have, but when it comes to ordinary human rights and dignity, the constitution treats everybody the same.
