I'm inclined to say 'yeah, and it may well just be gas,' but this site:

http://www.who.int/reproductive-health/impac/Symptoms/Abdominal_pain_early_S115_S118.html

has an interesting list of types of abdominal pain and possible causes.

If it's serious pain, get to an ER, but if it's just crampy/mild pain with no bleeding, ask her doctor, but don't worry excessively. Note:

"If all else is normal and you are not running a fever and you are in good health, the pain could be caused by the stretching of ligaments as the uterus grows."

this can be perfectly normal. her womb is supported by a spring like muscle on each side. with the new weight in there that it has never experinced before. it is cramping. just like when you strain or pull a muscle. but you need to look atthe facts surrounding this are there any other symptoms. fever, vomitting, diarrhea, spotting, or fainting if there is there could and probably are more prblems.

It could be cramping, which would be a cause for concern, but it could also be round ligament pain, which is anoying but normal. Here is a link:

I've found that seeing a chiropractor who is experienced in treating pregnant women completely eliminated this pain in my last pregnancy.

some mild cramping can be normal, however any pain or cramping should be a reason fro her to go to her OB, just to make sure. Best of Luck

it is very normal to have some cramping early on in the pregnancy, and even some bleeding. she shouldnt be worried, but she should let her OB know about it just in case. and if it suddenly gets worse, she should call her OB immediately.
