First, I ask you: what leads you to assume a person you consider to be "secular progressive" is automatically in need of religious guidance or training.
I don't mean disrespect; but if you dream for the "enlightenment" of your secular peers, your dreams will always end in disappointment.
This goal won't fail because of a subborn refusal to believe.
secular "progressives" aren't capable of complete submission. Mostly because they believe that blind faith, blind obedience is as harmful to humanity as you believe their secular progressive is. You would never think to live life without scripture, or fellowship, or prayer.
They can't imagine their life being shackled to some hippocritical antiquated lie.
Now, when is comes to the future of secular/religious relations, there needs to be real compromise from each. More important, we must work, play and create together. We need to actively bond by succeeding as a team. Working through problems as a team.
We need to acknowlege eachother. When you can see my humanity and ability and intelligence, maybe you will come to respect my beliefs (even if you disagree) because you realize that i came to believe what i believe in the exact same way you came to belive what you did. Thoughtfully, cautiously, questioning, passionately, deeply, completely.
and i might be offended to hear someone say that i am in need of enlightenment.
just like you are when inconsiderate, eliteist progressives say the same thing about you.

Better question would be how do we educate the close-minded, monolithic, theocratic, (neo)Conservative, or is that a lost cause ?

Good libraries, access to media, exposure to first class minds and an engaging environment and good teachers. Happens all the time.

it is impossible. their minds are so closed, though they believe the opposite. they think they are some elite group who knows whats best for everyone when really, they know nothing. they are the height of stupidity.

to the guy above me, or, until they abort themselves out of existence.

Educate or indoctrinate?

Critical thinkers are immune from your attempts to indoctrinate them.

They're educated.

They're simply wrong.

Since they don't breed much, they'll be gone shortly: all we have to do is outlast them.
