how about a nice mug and a bag of good coffee or a nice tea blend

Nothing expensive or personal, perhaps a good scented candle, nice writing pen, if she`s a tea drinker, an assortment of teas or a porcelain mug. If it is a group gift, then the cost factor can be higher and the gift a little more elaborate.

A Gift Certificate to Amazon.com will give her an immense variety of things to choose from. Also nice would be gift certificates to a great restaurant, or movie theater.

Lucky you for drawing the boss' name! ;-)

Last year one of my bosses got his boss ladies some t-shirts with a humorous, forgettable saying on them. There are tons of web sites that let you make custom stuff. My personal favorite:

"(Someone's last name her) University" on a sweater or t-shirt. It's a great conversation-starter, because people just keep wondering. "Is there really a University named after you?"

How about a gift certificate to the local movie theater? That way she can take a friend with her and go to the movies free with your gift.

I would get a nice gift basket from a place like Bath & Body Works, or make one of your own of nice lotions, hand cream etc....

I would get something that is not knick-knacky, and jewelry is probably too personal - I would say something from Hickory Farms or a gift certificate would work, if you don't know what her hobbies are.
