Well, if heaven?? is up then it can't be to warm there either
Hell is supposed to be "down" so the impression I get is the heat of the earth's core!! But then again, I'm an Atheist, so what do I know anyway..

good question.

I agree that intense cold seems much more hellish than heat. Then again, I've been known to use the phrase "cold as hell" even though it's completely fictional as far as I'm concerned.

Hell with the fire and brimstone description was described by Jesus for the first time on one occasion. However, in the Jewish religion which Jesus belonged to as he was not his own religion, hell did not exist. There was a place called Sheol which was a barren wasteland that hell is believed to originate from, but there was never fire or brimstone associated with it. Even the Greeks and Egyptians had an Underworld, but everyone went there so there was no discrimination re: good vs. bad.

Actually, hell is not described as being hot in the Bible. The burning lake of fire and brimstone is separate from Hell, and designated as the place that Satan will be condemned to once the Christian God has returned to earth in the form of Jesus. Hell, as in the spooky place non-Christians are said to go to, is not hot, but rather quite cold and dark. It is described as being a lonely place both literally and spiritually.

You have got me wondering about that now as well! If Hell is depicted as being a place of fire and brimstone, then why is there the expression "cold as Hell?"

Maybe we should start a new comparison for cold, other than Hell. How about if, from now on, people say "cold as Paris Hilton's gaze?"

From a strictly non-religious standpoint, I'm guessing it's because of geographical reasons.

Christianity originated in a region of the Middle East that doesn't see a lot of snow (or rain, for that matter) compared to other parts of the world.

Without having experienced the contrast of extremely cold conditions, the heat in the nearby deserts would have been the worst, or most "hellish" conditions imaginable.

Is hell somewhat a literal position of hearth, brimstone, and torture? No. > there's no way absolutely everyone must be separated from God, God is the fullness of all issues, heaven and earth and previous......... David suggested : playstation 139:8 - If I ascend up into heaven, thou artwork there: if I make my mattress in hell, behold, thou artwork there. did not you ask the question with regards to God being a hearth ? God is Hell, God is Heaven, he's Omnipresent.......... Hell hearth, this is God, Peace and delight interior the dominion, this is God, each and everything is in him and he's in each and everything........... for that reason, Heaven nor hell is a literal position, you're or will be in heaven in God or Hell in God, it is your ideas set which will ensure no matter when you're at peace or torment. a similar note it truly is existence to you ought to be demise or Torment to a distinct. ( " artwork not my note like hearth and as a hammer that braketh a rock into products " ? )

It's not fictional, but I have always imagined it cold too; I imagine it as being stuck, naked, neck deep in snow, and it's -80 all the time, and it sticks you at the point where the cold stings, and doesn't let you get numb.

I think that the people who described hell as hot were thinking of hell as eternal pain and suffering for your sins, while cold is more numbing, less dramatic.

I think that hell is particular to the individual. For instance, If you hate sex in life, that is what you will get in hell, hate cold, get cold in hell, hate white people, get em all in hell. That is if your worthy of hell. Gotta be a bad mutha to get there.

Only the Christians have Hell, so I guess they get to describe it any way they want.
