It started off with a kid at home...and he had this Jamaican maid working at his house. She tells him a story, and pretty soon he is on this desert island. He meets some pirate-like friends...various things happen, and then I seem to remember towards the end some of the bad guys got buried to their necks in sand? Sounds weird...can you help me out? BTW it is NOT Princess Bride. Thanks...I'm thinking it came on the Disney Channel a lot.

Thanks Yoli & Kara, but it's not 'Clara's Heart'- that sounds like a great movie- but the one I'm thinking of is more oriented towards kids...and it has supernatural elements to it- the kid is transported to an imaginary world on an island. Thanks though...appreciate it.

I really love imdb.com, I'm not sure if this is it since it has been a while and I didn't watch all of it but I think you are looking for Magic Island with Zachary Ty Bryan (I remember it had a pirate theme to it)

Clara's Heart is a 1988 movie starring Kathleen Quinlan and Whoopi Goldberg (also featuring a young Neil Patrick Harris, who would later find fame in Doogie Howser, M.D.). The movie tells the story of a family who escapes to a Caribbean island to grieve the loss of their baby daughter. While there they meet a kindly housekeeper (played by Goldberg) who helps them through their grief and eventually becomes a trusted friend and confidant.

I remember the movie also. it is driving me crazy. i remember a little blonde boy and a giant statue hope that helps someone.
