For attaining DIVINITY (Easwaratwam), moral and spiritual values have to be honoured as much as, if not more than, economic and material values. Morality alone can confer health and wealth on man. Your behaviour should be befitting your human birth. Neeti (morality) and Nijayati (integrity) are the life principles of Manava jathi (human race). One without morality cannot be called a human being. Develop morality and lead an honest life. Only then can you attain Easwaratwam (Divinity). -

I believe, economic and material values are subjective and redefines itself based on its environment and time, while moral and spiritual values are neither surrounding or time bound allowing it to be carried and followed in all circumstances. This characteristic puts Spiritual and Moral values on a higher stand.

The fact that Moral values give more than it takes is a reason good enough for it to be honored.

So it all depends which one does the average person wants to satisfy MORE. You honour those values .

Equally important is the realisation that material value system is self centered whereas spiritual/ moral value system is adapting to the outside as much as to the self

Economic and material values aim at satiating the desires but the moral and spiritual values shape them. Desires are like wild horses riding on which without reins can only lead to disaster..... the spiritual and moral values provide the necessary reins.

[I'll substitute "ethics" for "moral and spiritual."]

A code of ethics is what holds a society together. Behavioral patterns determine the laws, (both written and unwritten) and vice versa. An excellent example of this is the Ten Commandments. (In this case I'm not referring to its religious directives, but rather the fact that by accepting these rules for living, societies have survived and even flourished.)

Economic and material values are external forces that vary with the individual. They are not accepted in the same way by different people. They lack the ethical substance that is necessary to hold a society together.
