I've always wondered about the pleasure of sex.
I mean shouldnt sex be solely for reproduction?
I'm sure alot of you will disagree saying that it is good/fun etc, however, what is the point of the PLEASURE we get from SEX?
What if there wasnt this pleasure, would we all still do it as much?

Your thoughts please.

Sex is for reproduction. It could be argued that the central purpose/function of all of biology is to reproduce. In organisms which reproduce via sex, evolution will craft ways to ensure that it takes place. Looking at the extremes to which people will go to have sex, it would appear to have succeeded on that count. If sex sucked, it wouldn't be very conducive to ensuring reproduction and I can't imagine it would be done nearly as much - no more than needed for having "planned" kids. Of course there was a period of time in history where this is what was taught - the marriage "duty" of the woman.

If sex was only for the purpose of reproduction then women beyond the age of child bearing would no longer enjoy sex. Likewise gays and lesbians would not enjoy sex.
One of the many ways to show that you love someone deeply is to have sex with them and enjoy the bonding. Sex with a stranger (however pleasurable at the time) is really only gratification and not as pleasurable as sex in a relationship.
Long live sex is what I say. How boring life would be without it.

If there was no pleasure, the earth's population wouldn't be as high. Sex is for reproduction..yes....but plays an important part in marriage. Sex creates bonding and expresses feelings two have for each other. Sex also promotes health. The pleasureable feeling releases endorphins throughout the body and does good to the body.

i actually think that is just the human contact we enjoy.

imagine this. without any problems or peer pressure you get through life till your 21. Then all of a sudden you want to do and have everything that you see around you. Your still a virgin. And although the thought has crossed your mind it has never been as strong as when you are around those talking about it all the time...etc.
You were content. Then the outside forces started getting in the way. You once survived on your moms home cooking her hug, your dads praise. Your friends wanting to hang out with you. Now it's all about what you have or haven't done. Weird huh?

Well the pleasure wants us to do it more which drives populations etc etc.

It also creates a bond between 2 people and forms an important part of marriages/sexual relationships.

I will say that sex is not going to give the ultimate pleasure everytime you have it. It is something we should not exclude from our spirituality. And it is much more than just robotic movements to get the job done. Exploring is always the pleasure I get.

I think its a mechanism of nature to encourage the human being to keep having sex. The pleasure stymulus we get enourages us to breed to keep reproduction going at a health rate.

Sex can be very pleasurable.... did you know that the clitoris has no other function apart from pleasure? So what is it there for if sex is just for reproduction?

Our media floods us with the joys of sex. If you are not seeking it or indulging that moment you begin to feel like a monk. I think we would have less sex if each time it led to procreation. I believe that sex minus pleasure would bring civilization to a screeching halt.

The point of pleasure is that it makes us want to do it, Therefore driving us too reproduce.
