Is it possible to use a mp3 file downoaded from pc as a ringtone on Sprint's Motorola Razr Vm3 cell phone? The files are encoded at a 128 bit rate. They play fine in the music player on the phone, but I see no place to ASSIGN the songs to a contact. All the hype over this phone and you can't assign custom ring tones to your contacts??? Tell me it;s not so...please!

I tried using www.crostel.com to email the songs to my phone, but I keep getting a 906 Data Error from Sprint.

Please help!

Try this. I don't have that phone or service, but I've used this numerous times with my Verizon LG8300.

Sprint IS a listed carrier, so there is a good chance it'll work.

1) Make sure your Transflash card is in your phone.
2) On your phone go to "Get Tunes & Tones"
3) Select "Record New"
4) Select "Options" and switch the storage device to "mini-SD Card"
5) Go back to "Record New" and record a simple audio. It does not matter how long, I did it for 2 seconds.
6) Go back to "Get Tunes & Tones" and scroll down to the bottom and play (to make sure it recorded something) the new audio recording, also remember the name.
7) Shutdown the phone and put the Transflash into a PC.
8) Copy a mp3 file into the root directory of the Transflash card.
9) Move the mp3 to the audio recording file name (it will end in .qcp)
Windows Eg: G:\> move mymusic.mp3 061406_23591.qcp
*n*x Eg: # mv mymusic.mp3 061406_23591.qcp
10) Once the Transflash is back into the phone assign the file as a ringtone to any contact

Swan Lake. I know, pretty naff, but it's the best of a bad lot...I have a cheapie Nokia that has lasted me for about 3 years even though I've dropped it several times. I can't be bothered to try and download another ringtone.

One option is to go to www.phonezoo.com and use the mp3 file to make your own ringtone. It's free. They then send you a message with a link to download the ringtone to your phone. I have a Sprint phone and it worked for me.
