I think he does. He had awesome numbers in one of the best pitcher's parks in the history of the game. The guy hit for average, for power and even stole lots of bases. There was nothing Bagwell did not do well and his career was cut short or he'd have had clear and first ballot kinds of stats. Bagwell was still in the tail end of his prime when the shoulder injury hit. Given the switch to the new park he'd possibly equaled career bests for a few years before age robbed him of some skill. Bagwell was actually keeping up with Griffy RBI wise and a real threat to the all time RBI record. This despite playing on mostly losing teams with little or no protection in the line up for him. This was in a pitcher's park as well. Luis Gonzales and Ken Caminiti illustrate just how much the Astrodome dampened offensive stats. Look at their Astro numbers then look at what they did when freed from the Astrodome and think about what Bagwell's numbers would be like.
Bagwell in my opinion is a clear Hall of famer.

no.he was a few years short of putting up hall numbers. i don't even think 500 homers means an induction anymore, so 449 won't cut it. he would have had to have closer to 3000 hits to go with those 449. his batting avg is great, but it's the hall of fame, not the hall of really good. his teammated craig biggio will be a shoe in though, maybe a second or third ballot guy.

Yes, he was a fantastic hitter for many years, was an MVP, tortured opposing pitchers with his power and eye, and has better numbers than many hitters in the Hall of Fame. 1500+ RBI is nothing to sneeze at. Neither is 449 home runs.

A fine player but sort of in that Dale Murphy mode. Just not quite HoF stats. 449 dingers and 1500+ RBIs are pretty impressive though.

Very solid player but even though I love his style of play I believe he falls a little short. When you think best of his era he just doesn't satck up unfortunatly

His numbers are close but I agree that they'll probably be just short of what he needed. Didn't he have an injury bug there for a few years? I think that hurt him.

He is an all-star, no question. However, the H of F might be a little bit of a stretch for him.
