We moved from the south almost a year ago from a place at sea level. We now live on the side of mountain with rock formations and wildlife galore. We live at almost 9000ft.Its beautiful here and we have a ranch with many acres of land to do what we please with.A real western rural setting.I have always dreamed of living in a place like this .I have moved around alot in my life never really feeling at home but once before we came here. Now we live here and my mind can't except this as absolute home.I look outside sometime and its like looking at another planet so foreign to me but other times I feel so much a part of the place. In reality Its seems we are on a long vacation and its going to end anytime and I dont want to get to comfortable.Whats with this and why cant my mind know that im home forever?

Wow. First of all, I'm envious! It sounds like you live in an incredible setting! I would love to be somewhere like that!

I know what you mean about not feeling at home. When I moved to my new home, it felt so foreign at first. I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone. It didn't feel like "home" it felt like I was in a stranger's place. I couldn't believe I had my own house. It didn't feel like mine. It was the first time I'd moved out on my own. After I had all my things unpacked & my artwork on the wall & got settled in, it started to feel more like home. The town though still doesn't feel like it's "mine." There are a couple of places (my favourite bar where I sing, my grocery store, the mall) that I've been to often enough that they are familiar & I feel comfortable, but before I moved here i was 25 years in my old town. I've only been here a year. I'm still not used to the area, I'm still getting used to the streets (I'm not good with directions.) I still feel like somewhat of an outsider (especially at my new job as well where everyone else knows each other & I'm the newbie).

It's going to take time to adjust. You will adjust. It will start to feel more normal. You probably feel like you're in a dream when you look out at your new landscape (sounds like a dream come true!) In a sense, home is within you. You will feel at home when you find peace within yourself. Some people can move & travel a great deal trying to "find themselves" & never really feel at home. At some point, it's nice to set down roots. To let yourself settle in somewhere & enjoy it.

If you feel like you're on a long vacation, then is that so bad? What a wonderful life that would be! Most of us live our lives of drudgery in cities or suburbs without mountains & wildlife to greet us outside. I would love to live somewhere like that! I suppose I shouldn't complain. I have a lake 5 minutes north of me & there are a lot of parks around. I'm also fortunate to be in a very artistic & musical community & I've met some amazing people (including my soulmate!)

Home is where the heart is. Open your heart to your new rural paradise. Give it a chance. & hey, you're never trapped anywhere. Once you've been there a long time, if it still doesn't feel right then you can move somewhere else. But remember, it may not be the place, it might be a sense of longing within yourself. Search your soul. Where is home? What would happiness be for you?

Your dream has come true, enjoy it!!!

:)

People have a tendency to resist change. We each have an established comfort zone, and when we are removed from it, it makes us uncomfortable, no matter how nice the change is.

You'll eventually adapt to your new surroundings and establish a new comfort zone.

You will feel better when you can create more memories associated with your new place.
