gift card. the person gets what they want and i would be happier with a gift card than a meat and cheese tray.

I think it really depends on the person. If it was me it would depend on where the gift card is from. If someone is going to give me a gift card from a place that I can't get anything that my children and I need like best buy or a cheese and meat arrangement I would pick the cheese and meat. I don't really have money for food/clothes all of the normal stuff. So a gift card from a place that I could get my kids clothes, diapers, food would be the best choice if someone was buying a gift card for me.
Really depends on what the person needs & how they are doing financially & if they are doing ok then it doesn't matter.

With siblings all over (and I'm the only one Retired from the Military so far ...) I would much rather buy them a GIFT CARD ... so that they can shop the Military Exchange -- wherever in the world that they are!
