I am a very big raccoon fan. All I can say is they are not related. Raccoons may look like cat sometimes but they are not under one Family.

They are both carnivorous mammals, order Carnivora.
But different families,
the cats are in a family, called Felidae (with lions, tigers, house cats, cheetah, etc)
the racoon are in a family called Procyonidae (with ring-tails and coatis)
NEITHER is in the bear family, Ursidae.
Yes they ARE definately related. All life is related, from bacteria to mushrooms to jellyfish to flies. So, yes, they are related, and both related to bacteria, mushrooms, etc. Better to ask HOW closely related are cats and racoons, then the answer is different families of carnivorous mammals (a group of [mostly] meat eating animals with milk production, and live birth)
