Or could you just pay cash instead? I know that alot of hotels want you to pay with a credit card cause if anything happens to the room you'll charged for it. but is it required to pay with a credit card for all hotels?

I work in for Comfort Inn in Kentucky and the only time we ask for a Credit Card is for reservations or during special events like Derby. During special events is the hotels way want to know if you are serious about visiting. They will give a date you have to cancel by. But there are some expensive hotels that will ask for a Credit Card during the whole stay for and you will be allowed to pay cash at time of check out. But some of these hotels will allow you to pay cash at check in time, but you will have to put down a security deposit and that can be between $50-100 but what you do not use of the deposit you will get it back at the end of your stay. Hope that this will help you out some for your next trip.

i've stayed at hotels and paid cash. but yes most hotels requested that i give them my credit card info just in case i damage or steal from the room. but if you don't have a credit card they do have a second option of a cash security dep.

They generally want a credit or credit/debit card for reservations. Once you get to the hotel you can pay for in any form you want (including a different credit card.)

Its exactly what you said. You don't need to have a credit card to pay for the room but they like one for what they call Incidentals. If you don't have one then you can still stay but they may block things such as TV and phone use.
