Yes you are correct. As stated before, it is because of the tilt of the earth's axis from the perpendicular of the plane described by the earth's orbit around the sun.
Something not widely known is the earth's precession. As commonly demonstrated by a spining top. The top is rotating, and its axis of rotation is also seen to slowly oscillate, tracing an inverted cone shape. As the top slows its spinning, the oscillation becomes more prevant. The earth is also exhibiting this behavior and as such is undergoing a seasonal shift. It is claimed that the period of one oscillation of precession is 13,000 years.
Effectively, in 6500 years, the Spring season would begin on September 20th for the northern hemisphere, and the Austrailians would finally have a "White Christmas".

Yes. The Earth is tilted on its axis, so when the northern hemisphere is tilted toward the sun for our summer, the southern is tilted away from it. The Equator gets the least change in temperature and weather because the middle of the planet doesn't turn to or away from the sun.

Toilets flush clockwise in the northern hemisphere and counterclockwise in the southern hemisphere. That seemed to fit in somehow.

yes when it is our summer the sun is pointed directly to the north hemisphere but when its our winter it is pointed directly to the south thats why its colder when the sun is directly pointing towards the north

Yes. What u hav said is right and the reason which one can attribute to this phenomenon is the tilt in the earth's axis.
