If I think about certain terrible times in my past I can turn red and feel embarrassed all over again even though these things happened ten or twenty years ago, is this normal?

Dr. Phil is an *** but he sometimes has good comments and here's one for you:
You wouldn't worry how much people think about you if you knew how much they didn't.
This is only in your head. We all make ourselves and our actions more grandiose than they are... Get over it.. we're all human. I've done things that I could write a book about.. but won't.

Sounds normal to me. I think that feeling of embarrassment keeps the memory fresh and alive, so re-experiencing it as if it just happened is more likely. You may also feel embarrassed for being embarrassed, feel humiliated for having been humiliated, or scared because there was a time when you were scared... etc.

Go over the incident and see if you can cultivate a different experience of it in present time. Can you forgive yourself for being humiliated in the past? Can you be amused by that past event? Can you appreciate that you are now older and wiser? Can you acknowledge that you are now safe and happy and away from that past event?

And there's nothing wrong with being embarrassed. It shows that you are a human being with feelings and vulnerabilities. That's kind of sweet.

Well, it did not happen twenty years ago, but I sure hope that when I reach 20 years I would be a able to put it behind my back, cause now I still cannot.
I don't blame you at all, these things are hard to forget, but we sure should try, cause I keep thinking that people do forget, so I can do it too.
Good luck

normally the more distance between you and the occurrance the weaker the feelings become such as in the advance direction
fear of an event the closer it gets the greater it becomes . these both should hold true if not maybe you should seek therapy.
After twenty years I have trouble remembering most anything.
peace out

i dont think there is nothing abnormal abt it. But then, repurcurion of the same thots would make u feel miserable. Hence you have to put in extra extra effords try not to be in past for such a long time.

Life is small, and living in the past would be the worst think u can do to your self.... and so cheer up buddy :-) .. life is too precious and wonderful to be sulking abt past.

What's normal? What is the norm one is not necessarily the norm for someone else. So for you it is probably fine. As for me no, the stuff I was really embarrassed about I laugh about. I have reached a point not too much does embarrass me. I think it is called I don't know what, life.... I've seen alot, done alot, your fine don't let it bother you.

Yes, but most fade..this one still gets me 30+ years later..
You know those metal barricades that are cemented into parking lots? They look like a big staple? Well, at the ripe age of 12 I was trying to "be cool" so I lept under one and grabbed the top bar and was going to swing under like the monkey bars...
Yep, It was plastic and NOT connected to the ground...
Oh damn kill me now...
